COH. Mojerla

The College of Horticulture, Mojerla is one of the premier educational Institutions for horticulture education in the state of Telangana. It was established under Dr. YSR Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem during 2007 at Mojerla (G.O. MS No. 134 dated 26.06.2007) which later came under the purview of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University after the formation of new state of Telangana in 2014. It is the first Horticultural University in the state of Telangana and fourth in the Country.

The mission, goal & primary mandate of the University is to excel as Centre for Excellence in Horticultural Science Education, Research and Extension Education in the field of Horticulture and allied sectors.

The College of Horticulture, Mojerla is offering B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture, a 4 years under graduate programmme since 2007. The B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students are admitted through centralized common counseling of EAMCET from Biology, Physics and Chemistry (Bi.P.C) stream.

So far 560 students are graduated with B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture degree from this college. Students graduated from this college are placed in various positions in Public and private sectors. Some of the students have excelled in academics and pursuing higher studies in various Agricultural Universities in India and abroad. Details of some of the prominent alumni are mentioned below.

53 % of the students are working in private sectors, 22 % in Horticulture Officers, 9% working as Assistant Professors 3% in Banking sectors, 3 % in other department

As per the V Dean’s committee recommendations, total 50 teaching staff are to be placed, however, the University has sanctioned 24 posts, out of which 19 are filled with regular staff, 5 are on contract basis. In certain departments where regular staff is not sanctioned or filled, qualified teachers are hired on contract basis as per the qualifications set by the University

A total land of 110 acres was allotted to college and Instructional farm which are located at Mojerla (62 acres) and Madanapuram village (50 acres) of Wanaparthy District (fig 2 and fig 3). Out of which around 28 acres are occupied by Academic buildings, Hostels, Quarters, post harvest labs, playgrounds and protected structures etc., etc. Remaining 80 acres are allocated for development of instructional farm and it is demarcated for Crop museum, Botanical garden, Nursery, Farm ponds, different blocks for pomology, olericulture, aromatic and spices, floriculture, plant propagation and protected structures for cultivation of high value vegetables and flower crops.

College has separate storage facility for inputs, implements, farm records. For carrying different farm operations, implements such tractor with trailer, water tanker, cultivator, disc plough, mould board plough, rotavator, leveling blade, lawn mower etc. For carrying out Experiential Learning Programme, the college is equipped with shade net house, poly house and mist chamber with tray cart system for the cultivation of high valued horticultural crops and propagation of fruit crops and ornamentals. An Assistant Professor (Hort.) is kept in charge of Farm to look after the farm activities.
