Dr. Raji Reddy Danda, born in a remote village of Kunaram of Peddapalli district of Telangana state, earned his Ph.D. in Agro Meteorology from Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand, in 1992. He joined in the then Andra Padesh Agriculture University (APAU) as a Scientist and held several prestigious positions like Director, Agro Climate Research Centre, Director of Research, Director of Extension in APAU, ANGRAU and present PJTAU (Professor Telangana State Agricultural University). He also served as a Consultant in the World Bank for Afghanistan Agromet Services project. He was appointed and assumed charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTGHU), Mulugu, Telangana on 19 October, 2024.
Dr. Raji Reddy is a distinguished professor with over 30 years of experience in Agro-Meteorology research and teaching. His areas of specialization and expertise include climate risk assessment, climate change impact , crop simulation modeling, drought monitoring and impact assessment, decision support system, remote sensing and GIS for crop planning, development of eco-friendly and profitable crops and cropping systems. He obtained and executed more than 20 externally funded Research Projects granted by various national and international organizations Viz., ICAR, Ministry of Agri. & Cooperation, Govt. Of India, Department of space, IMD, ISRO, DST, NATP, ACIAR, Australia, University of Tasmania, Australia, AUS-Aid project, AGMIP, USA. worth US$ 2 million (INR 14 crores). He has an admirable published record in the fields of weather forecast, remote sensing and crop modeling. with 58 research papers in reputed National and International Journals, 3 book chapters, 3 policy briefs ,40 papers in conferences proceedings , 25 technical bulletins and 32 popular articles. He has participated and presented his research findings at 40 national/international conferences/meetings held in United States of America, Switzerland, Australia, Sri Lanka , Cambodia, Tanzania, Indonesia, Nepal, Afghanistan , Lao PDR and in India. Guided as Chairman for five Ph.D. research scholars and four M.Sc. (Ag.) students. Served the farming community through efficient crop planning, weather based pest and disease fore warning system, weather based agro advisories,advising the Government from time to time at the time of extreme weather like floods, drought .
He was honoured with several national and international honours, awards, laurels and medals from University of Southern Queensland, Australia IRI, Earth Institute, Columbia University, NewYork, USA ; CCAFS, Group of CGIAR; CSIRO- ACIAR, Australia , ICAR , ANGRAU, state governments and private organisations.
As Vice-Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University, he has a vision to strengthen the teaching, research and extension system of the university to make it a premier institution in horticultural education and research at national and international levels.
